Armed with a handful of photos and a cryptic written sketch of the identity of his Great, Great Grandfathers, Charlie Maddaus travels to post-Soviet Latvia to discover the complex fabric of his ancestry. Ensuing visits unveil not only the identities of his forebearers and their creative endeavors, but the First Awakening of Latvian history. In the process the unique culture of Latvia, its literature, art, song and dance come alive.
